The history of the Alpenhotel Fischer****
Tradition & modernity in a family business
Inge und Michael Wenig
Since 2005 Inge Wenig, daughter of the Fischer family, is operating the Alpenhotel together with her husband Michael. Also their son, Michael Wenig jun., is meantie working in the family business.
1967 – 1977
The current Alpenhotel Fischer was built between 1966 and 1967 by Hans and Rosa Fischer, and opened thanks to you on the 15th July 1967 as a hotel/guesthouse complete with 40 beds. In 1977, the Fischer family extended the house to fit 60 more beds as well as an indoor pool. In 1984, the final addition to the building came in the form of the hotel wing with its Untersberg apartments.
… & Moderne
1977 – 2006
In 1990, the hotel in Berchtesgaden, which had been run as a family business up to that point, was leased to couple Andrea and Jürgen Lefévre for 15 years. Once these 15 years were up, Inge Wenig, the Fischer family’s daughter, and her husband began running this house, and have been doing so since the 1st April 2005. Their idea: “… The pleasant feeling of being welcome and feeling at ease”. After just 6 weeks of reconstruction and renovation, the Hotel Fischer was opened under a new name – Alpenhotel Fischer – on the 29th April 2005. In autumn 2005, Alpenhotel Fischer was enhanced with a spa, which opened its doors to guests at Easter in 2006.
At all times hand in hand
yesterday & today
In order to make the Alpenhotel Fischer attractive for our guests in the future, we always pull together.
In the course of time, e. g., the rooms were renovated, new room categories were added, the hotel bar was redesigned, a new energy-efficient oven for the kitchen was purchased and the wellness area was also extensively rebuilt and modernized.
The solar heating system for providing hot water was installed, the public areas underwent basic renovation, the restaurant was renovated and a panoramic terrace was developed.
The WiFi network was set up.
All the rooms in the main house were fully renovated (Grünstein and Watzmann), including the bathrooms.
A meeting room for about 30 people was built, and was equipped with all the necessary amenities.
Our “Edelweiss” single rooms, including the bathrooms, were renovated.
The furniture in the “Rauher Kopf” rooms was replaced.
Sections of the first and second floor were fully gutted, and the “Alpenrose” category was created. The oil-fired heating system was converted to a district heating system using biomass, and the bottom of our swimming pool was raised to ensure more safety for our guests.
The bar was redesigned, a barrier-free entrance in the basement was built, the treatment rooms were moved to the basement (bigger rooms and more peace and quiet for our guests) and an additional relaxation room was developed within the spa area, complete with more room for lying down.
Three “Bergkristall” rooms were newly built.
An additional 4 “Bergkristall” apartments were built, and the windows in each of the rooms and the panoramic windows in the indoor pool underwent a thorough renovation. High speed internet was set up for our guests.
The “Rauher Kopf” double rooms on the first and second floors were gutted out and the balconies were extended, leading to a new category of room being created: “Untersberg”.
Renovation and modernization of some rooms category “Grünstein”. Replacement of the floor in the restaurant and the tiles on our sun terrace. Procurement of 20 flat screen televisions.
Modernization of the reception and the entrance area
Acquisition of a more energy-efficient stove for the kitchen and the construction of our wooden terrace by the outdoor area of the pool. Redesign of the corridors and replacement of the old room doors with modern fire protection doors.
Major renovation of our wellness area: two additional saunas (herbal sauna and salt sauna), new modern relaxation and seating area, tea corner and treatment rooms.
Modernization of our restaurant with a new buffet and floors. Corona-related renovation work such as e. g. the creation of a new restaurant area (“Stüberl”) to be able to offer guests more flexibility in meal times and to be able to keep minimum distances.
New windows, paintwork and floors in the hallway area
